Post-Inflammatory Flare-Ups (Purging)

What to Expect
Roughly half of AviClear patients may experience post-inflammatory flare-ups (purging) after one or all of their treatments. This is a normal part of the healing process.

  • Condition may worsen before it improves — This is temporary and expected.
  • Timing — Typically occurs a few days post-treatment and can last a few weeks to several months after treatment.
  • Makeup — Non-comedogenic makeup for acne-prone skin is okay to use for coverage.
  • Managing Breakouts — Over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoids can help minimize breakouts.

Proper Skin Care for Acne-Prone Skin

  • Wash your face every morning and night, and after working out or sweating.
  • Apply non-comedogenic moisturizer every morning and evening to prevent rebound oiliness.
  • Use UVA/UVB sunblock daily — This protects your skin and helps maintain your results.
  • Benzoyl peroxide or retinoid products (starting a few days after treatment) can help prevent clogged pores.
  • Shampoo your hair regularly if it’s long or touches your face/back.
  • Stick to your treatment regimen — Trying too many new acne treatments can irritate your skin.
  • Don’t touch or pick your face — This can spread bacteria and cause scarring.
  • Wash makeup brushes, pillowcases, and sheets regularly to reduce bacteria exposure.

When Will I See Results?

In clinical studies, while most AviClear patients showed improvement 3 months after their 3rd AviClear treatment, some patients didn’t start to see improvement until 6 months after their 3rd treatment.

Results Timeline

3 months post-treatment: Most patients begin seeing noticeable improvement

6 months post-treatment: 87% of patients saw at least 50% acne reduction

12 months post-treatment: 92% of patients achieved at least 50% improvement

While results can vary, there might be a delayed response in some patients. Like any medical treatment, results cannot be guaranteed.
