One of the most common questions we hear during consultations is:

“What’s the difference between Botox and laser?”
Or
“Is IPL the same as Laser Genesis?”

It’s a great question — because while these treatments all improve your skin, they do completely different things.

Here’s how we explain it in the treatment room.

Botox® – For Wrinkles Caused by Movement

Botox is designed to soften wrinkles that are caused by facial movement.

Think:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (the “11’s”)
  • Crow’s feet

If a wrinkle appears when you raise your brows or squint, Botox is likely the right solution.

Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscle that’s creating the crease. When the muscle relaxes, the skin looks smoother and more refreshed.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see?
Many people assume Botox improves sun damage or skin texture — it doesn’t. It’s specifically for movement-related lines.

Results typically last about 3–4 months.

Laser Genesis – For Texture, Redness & Collagen Support

Laser Genesis is completely different from Botox.

Instead of targeting muscle movement, Laser Genesis works by gently heating the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production.

We often recommend it for:

  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness
  • Acne scars
  • Dull or uneven skin

It’s one of our favorite treatments for clients who want overall skin refinement without downtime.

Many people are surprised by how comfortable it is — and how naturally the results build over a series of treatments.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) – For Sun Damage & Pigment

Intense Pulsed Light, often called a photo facial, targets discoloration in the skin.

This is the treatment we recommend when someone says:

“I don’t like these brown spots.”
“My skin looks uneven.”
“I have sun damage from years ago.”

IPL uses light energy to break up pigment in the skin so dark spots gradually fade.

A quick note we always explain beforehand:
Pigmented areas often darken temporarily before they flake away. That’s normal — and part of the process.

So Which One Is Right for You?

Here’s the simplest way we break it down:

Wrinkles from facial movement → Botox
Texture, pores, redness, early aging → Laser Genesis
Brown spots & sun damage → IPL

And very often, the best results come from combining treatments thoughtfully — not choosing just one.

The Right Plan Is Personal

No two faces are the same.

During your consultation, we look at:

  • What’s actually bothering you
  • What’s causing it
  • Your comfort level with downtime
  • Your long-term goals

Sometimes what someone thinks they need isn’t the treatment that will give them the best result — and that’s where professional guidance matters.

If you’re unsure which direction to go, we’re happy to walk you through it and create a plan that makes sense for your skin
